I am very proud and feel very privileged to be the Chair of Governors at Lister Primary school. I have been a Community Governor at Lister for the past 8 years and stepped up to Vice Chair in 2014/15 and this year accepted the role as Chair. Our school has a team of committed and hardworking staff  who ensure all our delightful children achieve the best possible outcomes in an environment that nurtures each and every one of them. Lister is a successful, safe and harmonious learning environment and my role is to work with the headteacher and staff to ensure we continue on our trajectory of becoming a good and then outstanding school. My own work involves me spending lots of time in schools in and around Yorkshire and offers me the opportunity to see lots of different ways schools work to educate our young people. My number one priority as a governor is to ensure by the time our children leave Lister they have learnt and experienced as much as possible and are fully prepared for the next stage of their learning journey. I love being part of the team at Lister and will continue to work hard and face the challenges and opportunities this role brings to help to improve the life chances of all our children.

It is such an honor to be a governor at Lister Primary School.

Lister Primary places children at the heart of everything that they do; which enables them to have the best outcomes for the children. As one enters into school the ethos of success, care and fun is clear to see. It is a place where children, staff and parents are encouraged to succeed, care and thrive. I thoroughly enjoy being part of this school and feel honored to be a governor.

As an education consultant I’m able to visit many schools in the authority where I advise on teaching and learning especially in second language development. I have been fortunate to have been in schools in Malaysia where I observed how second language is taught. Also I had fantastic opportunity to shadow Ofsted inspection from the phone call of the inspection to the feedback at the end.  This breathe of knowledge means that I’m well placed to see the progress of Lister children compared to others in similar settings.

It is the responsibility of the governors and the Head teacher including her leadership team, to ensure that the best outcomes are always at the heart of any decisions made for the child, parents, staff and the community and I firmly believe that Lister Primary upholds this.

As governors, we know how important it is that our pupils achieve well in this competitive world and we hope that by supporting the school in as many ways as we can, sometimes by asking difficult questions, we will help them in this process.”

I am so pleased to be part of this school that is going places and has a bright future. I don’t come from an education background but what I have seen so far is that this is a hard working school that’s puts its children’s education first.

I come from a civil service background and the skills and knowledge that I have acquired will allow me to bring fresh thinking and change for Lister Primary School.

My hobbies include my children and their future. Being a parent governor will allow me to improve the lives of, not just my children, but all children who attend this School.
